Menno Kooistra Architects/TANK reimagined the Rivierstaete office as a high quality residential building. Once the building was the largest office building in Europe. Because of its large scale and proportions, the new apartments have a unique view that tops out of the low scale surroundings.
The original office facades of the building has been replaced by a floor to ceiling glass. The convex glass plates bend inwards to create balconies and passive shading on the floors below. The balconies are enclosed by glass creating privacy between neighbouring apartments. On the interior the glass facade appears to be concave maximising daylight and views. The glass panels are printed with functional vertical lines on the outside to integrate sun shading, privacy and profiling of glass plates and openable windows.
