TANK submitted a patent for an innovative residential typology. The patent describes a highly efficient circulation strategy from the entrance at ground level to the entrance of an apartment. The circulation eliminates the central core with elevators, stairs and collective hallways typically found in conventional residential buildings and thereby creates more space for the residents. The new residential typology derived from the project ‘De Voortuinen’, a former ING-Banking office building located in Westerpark-West, Amsterdam.
The patent covers privacy demands by residents and high efficiency demands by developers, housing corporations and investors. In collaboration with DGMR, TANK developed a system with stairs and elevators in the facade. The vertical circulation, e.i. stair or elevator, give direct access to the private terras and residence on each level. The ground floor is freed from a service core and maximises commercial space.
